No. 13

B.J. Daniels, QB, South Florida, Fr.

Daniels

Preseason rank: NR

Why him here: I thought long and hard about where to rank both Daniels and Rutgers' Tom Savage, two seriously promising freshmen quarterbacks. I ended up putting Daniels higher because, even though Savage is a more polished passer, his South Florida counterpart seems to have an even higher ceiling.

Daniels' athleticism is simply off the charts. Like Matt Grothe, the man he replaced because of an injury in Week 3, Daniels can scramble around and avoid oncoming pass-rushers, leaving them grasping for air. But he also possesses a monster arm and can heave it half the field.

We saw those skills throughout the season, as Daniels passed for 1,983 yards and 14 touchdowns while also rushing for 772 yards and nine scores. We also saw him make a lot of rookie mistakes and often run around with no apparent plan for what to do next. But this was Daniels' first full year of playing, and if he can harness his talents, his potential is without peer. It will be fun to compare and contrast he and Savage over the next few seasons and see who ends up having the better career.

Not too sure on having a higher ceiling. He may have a higher college ceiling but these rankings take into account post-graduation play (i.e. NFL). That's where Savage has a higher ceiling.

The Bulls will rely more on the run game, then BJ's arms and legs. The days of the QB being 85% of the the offense are over.

Agreed and glad we aren't just relying on the QB!

Remember ... we "relied" on our RB(Hall) more than our QB(Julmiste) in the past.

Talent DICTATES !

ET,

That was 2 out of 14 years. That is not aný trend. It was just that Julmiste sucked :(

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
