seriously, why is our band so terrible? i mean, we have a HUGE university. you'd think we could do better than this.

admittedly, i'm both spoiled and biased, as anyone who's ever seen the Marching 110 can attest to.

In another post, Reaper said the band is all non scholarship.  Is that true of most schools?  I guess I assumed many in the band got partial scholarships one way or another.

They get a stipend per sport.  So if one plays during the games they'll get money, but if they also play for the basketball games they get even more.  I think it totals to almost 2K a year.  My psycho roommate from last year is in the band.

I was a member in the band last year and we got $300 put into our student account for going to all football games.  Members of the basketball band get another $300 for going to the 20 games that they commit to.  If you are in the Show Band you get another amount, and if you are in the show band, you are in it for the whole year.

Wow, they get paid? That's pretty cool. I know the 110 isn't (getting flown all over the country for performances is your 'pay')

I think the band plays the same thing over and over again because the football games are really nothing more than practice for them.  Its the competitions they are working toward and the game gives them one more chance to practice their competition show, does anybody know if thats right?

I really hope we play Florida A&M next year and they bring their band and they rock our field, that will hopefully make the band step it up a notch.

I've seen A&M's band a few times through the years and the talk of how great they are is mostly hype, but then again in our country if you say something enough times most people will believe it.
