Greg is reporting a verbal from JUCO LB Curtis Weatherspoon (Valdosta HS/Dean College).

He was a national defensive player of the week and received JUCO All-American honorable mention for 2008.

As a senior at Valsosta HS, he was first team All-State CLASS AAAAA and regional co-defensive player of the year.

A couple of studs from Pasco's strong team from last year signed with Dean College.

RB Jamaal Haynes and LB/S Marquis Dixon will be playing up there this fall. They both have a lot of potential.

Veron is primarily a punter and given that Alvarado is a senior is a position of need for next season. 

As to the JUCO LB, I am not thrilled on that one.  Especially this early in the year for a kid whose best offer is Marshall.  Although I reserve the right to come back and eat my shoe if the kid turns out to be good.

Veron is a very good punter, absolutely crushes the ball on kick offs, and could even do some kicking for us.  He's a jack of all trades when it comes to kicking and punting so that makes him a great replacement for Delbert.  As for Weatherspoon im not really sure what to say other than hes an insurance policy in case out other OLB's don't develop the way we anticipate.

Weatherspoon was the ONLY college freshman LB to receive All-American recognition in 2008. The other 8 LB's so honored were all sophmores and one of them was Jacquian Williams who signed with us this year.

We have 3 senior LB's with only 2 juniors and 0 sophmores on our roster. Weatherspoon provides much needed experience for 2010.

Perhaps, you are thinking of former JUCO player D Spires who returned to the team. There was also a 2009 HS verbal LB who we told before signing day that we wouldn't accept him because of poor academics.

Another junior college standout that's not in for sure is highly rated defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who still has to finish multiple classes this summer to get in this fall.
