JCO LB Curtis Weatherspoon verbals to USF

We have always had a smallish, speedy weakside LB on our defense.  Think Pat St. Louis.  With Quavon Taylor leaving the team and Ivan Nicholas not qualifying (both these guys are built the same as Weatherspoon), we have a severe shortage of super fast OLBs.  Weatherspoon will compete with Sanchez for this position next year.  If QT had worked out, I doubt we sign this guy.  We do need him in our defense.

PLUS, guys like this are absolute dynamite in special teams.

I wonder what his grades are? With the academic committee being ball busters and the problems we have had this year with JUCO kids finishing, the staff better take a hard look a academic standings, not getting hopes up on JUCO kids anymore.

this kid is insurance, they need more LB's on campus in the spring, especially some older ones that have college contact experience.

Are you thinking of this kid Tyrone Williams, was once a commit but de-commited and is now at South Alabama?

Notice who else is on that list with him?  Mr. Claude Davis, although it says 6-5 250lbs, I hear he's around 260lbs now, and could grow into another inside/outside threat on the DL.

Thanks, I was looking for its release and expected both of them to be named. I also wouldn't mind taking DL Charles Deas (Pearl River CC) if we don't land a quality HS DL in this class.

Maybe you should ask that question on their board.

I know they didn't list Claude Davis as a USF verbal until just recently.

Perhaps, they just haven't done a follow up with Witherspoon. Their last update on him, appears to be in June.
