Also that was a huge move by Maddon coming out and totally flipping out on the umps on that call.  He really had BJ's back on that one, and the normally subdued Maddon went off.  That will sell well in the clubhouse and should help to keep BJ's spirits up and shrug off his recent mental laps.

Didn't think of that, but you're right.  Maddon basically showed that if BJ hustles like he's asked to, the team and coaches will back him 100%.  Great move to keep the chemistry high.

I like Upton a lot.  His attitude sucks... but in the right environment, I think he can change.  Randy Moss did... well, enough to become a team player and forget about the "I" for a season.

first base ump called BJ out on first because he said upton made a movement towards second, even though he didnt, on a throwing error to first even though BJ stayed on the right side of the first baseline.

Thanks, I just saw the replay on FSN. Wow, how can someone make that call? He never crossed the fowl line.

You don't have to cross the foul line, only make a move towards second base. If you watch the replays, BJ makes an ever so slight shrug with his left shoulder before stopping and turning t the right .... and I cannot emphasize "ever so slight" enough ... and I bet that's what mlb comes back with.

It was pretty obvious to me he made a quick shrug to 2nd.

He moved to the right to avoid the tag then straightened his body.  Terrible call.

it was pretty obvious to me that he was trying to avoid the ball.

this was clearly a case of the ump abusing his power. mlb will do nothing

He never turned toward second base.  His head was always facing the first base line until he turned towards his right.  It was a terrible call.  Thankfully, it didn't cost the Rays the game.

and how great, the idiot that blew the call is behind the plate tonight

Maddon towered over him ... Dude's got a Napolean complex .... we could be in for a long night.
