So let's see...

Kevin Smith "retires" to the NFL.

Ricky Kay gets arrested for property destruction and (I'm assuming) kicked off the team.

Phillip Smith gets kicked off the team for stealing textbooks... along with WR Sidney Haynes.

On top of that... the whole GOL fiasco.

Did I forget anything?

Boy, Karma is a b*tch, isn't it boys?   ;D :D ;D :D;):D;):D

It doesn't matter, because every player who is no longer with the team was a terrible student, in the doghouse, or was going to be beat out by a true freshman (or a combination of the 3).  :D

Don't dog on Bryant.  He had family problems.  I hear he might be going to FIU to stay home and get back into football.

I've heard Haynes is still on the team.  I cannot confirm that though.

Yeah, I heard Haynes was possibly.  Which would be even funnier... commit theft and fraud and still play for GOL.  Kind of the opposite of what you've been selling us, eh? ;)

Well that adds up to nine guys, which is about one-tenth of the roster, so yeah... decimated is the right word.

Signed, Jamie the Dictionary Stickler

I thought with decimation that every 10th guy got killed off.

Killed off the roster, close enough.

And while I'm being a stickler, it turns out that the third definition has become much looser than 1/10th:

Main Entry: dec·i·mate

Pronunciation: \ˈde-sə-ˌmāt\

Function: transitive verb

Inflected Form(s): dec·i·mat·ed; dec·i·mat·ing

Etymology: Latin decimatus, past participle of decimare, from decimus tenth, from decem ten

Date: 1660

1: to select by lot and kill every tenth man of

2: to exact a tax of 10 percent from <poor as a decimated Cavalier  John Dryden>

3 a: to reduce drastically especially in number <cholera decimated the population> b: to cause great destruction or harm to <firebombs decimated the city> <an industry decimated by recession>
