UCF football player arrested for incident on campus

Sophomore UCF football player Ricky Kay was suspended from the team after he was charged with a felony and a misdemeanor for an incident that occurred on campus and caused over $5,000 in damage.

Kay, 19, was charged with preventing or hindering firefighter equipment (a third degree felony) and misdemeanor damage of property. He was arrested Saturday night. He posted $1,100 bond and was released from the Orange County jail.

Here is how the incident played out Saturday, according to the charging affidavit and statements given by Kay and freshman Knights' teammates Lawrence Young and Nick Pieschel, who witnessed parts of the incident:

    * At 2:21 a.m. two Allied Barton security guards noticed a group of at least five persons "making a lot of noise" in Garage B outside the Tower 4 dorms on campus.

    * The group ran into a nearby stairwell entrance, which was followed by the activation of a fire alarm. The security guards followed them into the stairwell, observed water coming down the stairwell and notified police.

    * Police arrived and spoke to security who identified Kay as one of the persons seen entering the Tower shortly before the alarm.

Kay told police in a sworn statement that he'd been at a nightclub and upon returning, had hit and broken a stop sign and after entering Tower 4 also broken a pressure gauge attached to the fire sprinkler system on the stairwell between the first and second floors. Young and Pieschel told police they witnessed Kay hit the stop sign, but both said they only heard a loud burst behind them in regards to sprinkler.

Based on all three statements and review of dorm hallway and entrance video, Kay was placed into custody. UCF Physical Plant valued the stop sign at $200 and a supervisor with the water restoration clean up crew estimated water damage at $5,000.

Kay came to UCF in 2007 as a walk-on, but appeared in all 13 games last season including a start against South Florida. He caught six passes and was credited with a kickoff return against SMU.

UCF officials said in a statement that Kay would remain suspended until resolution of the charges.

He might of hit it with his hand in or outside the club. I watched several people think it was funny to punch a hole in the wall when I worked downtown (Makos).

Yup he was drunk and punching stuff (unless his car was in the stairwell).

Let's take the UCiF approach on this subject:

"THEIR WHOLE SCHOOL IS THUG-U!  UNIVERSITY OF CONVICTED FELONS!"
