I find it very disturbing that someone would attack a piece of building life-safety equipment.  Why endanger the occupants of an entire building just to blow off steam?  Isn't there a concrete block or brick wall he could attack somewhere instead?

The $5000 isn't for repair of the sprinkler, it's for cleanup of the resulting flood.
