Good article on Schnellenberger.  What Howard did with Miami and Louisville, and now trying to do with FAU, proves that what CJL is trying to do with USF is possible.  I will be rooting for the Owls tonight against Memphis.

Honestly, to me, what CJL has done with USF proves that what Schnelly is trying to with FAU is possible ...

I will be rooting for the Owls tonight against Memphis.

The final BCS rankings are in.  We were #21.  There is no post-bowl BCS.

I will be rooting for the Owls tonight against Memphis.

Schnelly's previous work at UL and UM helped give Leavitt a blueprint for building a program.

actually no... if that was the case Schnelly never visited JL after getting hired at FAU, seeking his advice.  HS has admitted Leavitt's work guided HIS at FAU, not vice versa...

Building football at UM in the 70s and UL in the 80s was probably not much different than starting football at USF and FAU.  HS did visit CJL, but the whole idea of Florida Speed and building a wall around florida (specifically dad-broward) was HS.  CJL probably would tell you that if anyone could start a program it would be HS (snyder) being there also.

I've been racking my brain over it forever and finally figured out Howard Schnellenberger looks just like Jack Warden.

seriously-- how much actual coaching is he really doing at this point?

He just looks like some dude hanging around the sideline who occasionally gives a pep talk

I don't know how much actual coaching he does.  However, he gives credibility to that program, as well as publicity and is a good fundraiser.  A young program needs all of that.  We were lucky to LRS do that for us early on.

with all the kudos they have gotten-- the one that sticks in my craw (whatever a craw is) is "they are playing in their first bowl game in only their seventh season. That's a record" or whatever

Had we gotten a bowl game in 2002 that we should have-- we would have done the same feat in only 6 years.

thanks again CUSA

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
