http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/florida/sfl-524cristbudget,0,1326070.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines

Lawmakers had ignored Crist's recommendation against any increases in university and community college tuition. The governor not only vetoed the 5 percent across-the-board increases but said he also will reject a separate bill that would let three schools _ the University of Florida, Florida State University and University of South Florida _ make even greater increases.

``I feel for our students and I feel for their families,'' Crist said. ``They are paying higher insurance rates. They are paying higher property taxes. They are paying higher gas prices. I don't think it's right to make them pay higher tuition, too.''

Truly disappointing.

I just don't think this will pass. While it would be beneficial for USF, lawmakers have argued for years that the state University has worked itself out in regards to levels of university quality.

I don't forsee the schools left out of this three being very supportive and ultimately killing it

Let’s think about this for a second.

It would look bad to sign the 5% increase for the entire SUS AND allow UFSUSF to increase their tuition.

For those that think that tuition is too high... then apply to the other 8 public universities.

I would be OK with this.

Correct and if it were to pass, Genshaft and the FSU president said that they would delay the tuition increase until next year (because we're so close to the fall semester).  The UF president said that if it would help pass the bill that he would do the same.

So if it were to pass, only the incoming students would be affected.  The 2nd, 3rd... etc. year students will not be.
