Ferdinand the Bull Posted December 10, 2006 Group: Member Topic Count: 25 Content Count: 274 Reputation: 1 Days Won: 0 Joined: 07/19/2006 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Mr. Hauling Bull, you haven,t been in Florida longer than me and you are full of hauling Bull. In the first place, Florida use to be sectioned into North Florida and South Florida. That was b ecause until the early 60's the power in the state legislature was in North Florida. The socalled southern part of the State [Which Tampa Bay was a part of] was getting the royal shaft. That is the reason we dont have as good roadsz as say Jacksonville. Then came redistricting and the Miami area started getting the majority of the monies. We are just now getting our fair share of the monies. So you see there is some hostilities with the Miami area besides the fact that they think that they are Florida. The fact of the matter is that most people in the rest of Florida do not consider Miami as a part of real Florida. IN fact, the first choice for the universaity was suppose to be The University of Southern Florida, which would have been more accurate. What happened was that Florida Southern College complained that the name was too close to theirs and would /could confuse others as to thier identity. Since it was the southern most university at the time and it is in what was known then as South Florida, it seemed fitting and proper at the time.
