  1. I ' be noticed that when you have a new head coach and he is offensive minded, that he comes in and changes everything. This usually has the offense(and defense) so confused that they make mistakes and are less disciplined By the time he gets his players in place he gets fired. A defensive head coach, like dungy will work with what he has and starts winning sooner. Coach T stated that he has to vet his kind of players in order to win. O know he did that at W my. I hope he succeeds but I worry for him.
  2. I know that all anyone wants to talk about is whether to keep or fire the coach but I am curious as to why the refs quit calling the penalties against Seton Hall in the beginning of the second period. S.H. had gone into a full court press and they were trying to steal the ball. I believe we had a comfortable lead of 6 or 8 points. 4 out of 5 guys for S.H. had 3 penalties each and I thought we had them. All of a sudden the refs quit calling the penalties and we resort to throwing the ball long. S.H. then starts intercepting the long throws and all of a sudden the game is over. I know some of you guys know the game like the palm of your hands and would appreciate your explaining what I missed. Also, there was one shot on TV where coach Gonzalez was joking with a ref. They looked like twin brothers unless they were both hit with the same ugly stick!
  3. with CRM he has a leg to stand on, Leavitt and Woolard are great for this school. To attack a USF coach, player, or administrator on this board (whether they have won or lost games) is pathetic.  You do it too.  You should just grow up.  The same repetitive stuff grows old.  Smazza will not grow up - you still have a chance. Good point bulliever. Im glad you said that because that is what true fans should do. Wew-- I almost started to agree with that fella from L.A. That was close. Thanks. I needed that!
  4. This is like is the glass half full or half empty? Is not the team improving over last year? Have we not moved to a tougher conference than before? Its all in how you look at it. Mac's got the house half built, now let him finish it. If you get some one else and they have to start all over, how can you guarantee that it will get better right away. This sounds like those 15 years of loosing the Bucs went through. The coaches were given 5 years to build a team, but the coaches would get fired before the 5 years were up and the next c oach would hav e to start all ov er again and again and again.
  5. What exactly is a personal attack? Is it when someone makes a general statement but doesn't back it up with facts? So if you call him about it ; is that a personal attack? When a person makes an obvious inflamatory statment geared to get a negative response; is that a personal attack or is it a personal attack if you answer that persons insult. I dont mean to tell you how to run your message board because I think you guys do a fantastic job. My only point is to ask you to look at the goader as well as the goadee. If a person wrongly yells fire in a crowded theatre, would you blame the people who paniced in the stampeed or would you blame the person who first yells out the warning I'm only pointing out to look at it from all sides.
  6. Why is it nonsense smazza? atleast they back up what they say with some facts. What facts do you have? or are you just wissing in the wind?
  7. i would hope so if usf dosnt have freshman step up next year it will be a long year Why is it so pertinent that usf "have freshmen step up next year." Yes I hope some freshmen will step up but is it do or die?
  8. Hey Josh, Any chance you might be checking in? Me, I'm curious about C. Dav is. Did he show is he in? The talk was so short you hardly had time to pass gas (take a smoke)
  9. Hmmmm. 26ppgs is not bad either! How was the defense?
  10. They were an NAIA school before 1978. I don't think they even made it to the Cigar Bowl or anything else!!!!!
  11. Who conducted the poll that is the source for your "fact"?  When did this take place. I'll keep a truck on standby to haul your bull crap away.   You third world folks ae all alike. You just wont face reality!!!!!!
  12. Mr. Hauling Bull, you haven,t been in Florida longer than me and you are full of hauling Bull. In the first place, Florida use to be sectioned into North Florida and South Florida. That was b ecause until the early 60's the power in the state legislature was in North Florida. The socalled southern part of the State [Which Tampa Bay was a part of] was getting the royal shaft. That is the reason we dont have as good roadsz as say Jacksonville. Then came redistricting and the Miami area started getting the majority of the monies. We are just now getting our fair share of the monies. So you see there is some hostilities with the Miami area besides the fact that they think that they are Florida. The fact of the matter is that most people in the rest of Florida do not consider Miami as a part of real Florida. IN fact, the first choice for the universaity was suppose to be The University of Southern Florida, which would have been more accurate. What happened was that Florida Southern College complained that the name was too close to theirs and would /could confuse others as to thier identity. Since it was the southern most university at the time and it is in what was known then as South Florida, it seemed fitting and proper at the time.
  13. How about finding ways to bring in people who would like to come to the games but can't afford to.; for example a young family of four (or more) would have a hard time coming to the game when you consider either tickets, eats, and/or baby sitters. mayb e we can come up with a family pack in the north end zone where it can be possible for these young families to come. At the same time you are building up a fan base for the future. As for the Bulls being lucky, they say that luck is where preparation meets opportunity. It took a lot of years to get football at USF. The first President of USF disdained sports and had the college built in such a way that there would be no sports. Gosh, I believe it was almost 10 years before Basketball was played. There were a lot of people who wanted to have football and were silenced over the years, espec ially in the beginning. Ask Larry, who used to write for the Oracle in those beginning years. That's why I think that USF doesn't have to apologize for being around for such a short time.
  14. While they're at it, maybe suggest to those businesses about buying season tickets for their best customers. I know it's being done with Bucs season tickets, why not the Bulls? A good way to plant seeds for future fans, don't you think?
  15. While we didn't get the b iggest headlines, we got top billing. I think Brett did a great job for us. Everybody has to see it!!! While I agree with what you say about those in power at the Trib.(They have not been anywhere near the sports power they were since award winning writter and former sports manager of the Trib. Tom Mac. retired). There has been an air of arrogance since they forced Tom out of even semi-retirement. Brett, I know you are just doing your job, but you come across like a breath of fresh air compared to the stink we've been reading.
  16. And who were they fighting the entertaining dollar with ? 11974 was like a dead year. http://www.geocities.com/colosseum/pressbox/8121/ut_hist.htm who worked hard to build up that programs #1. The population has doubled since then #2. You are quoting history with out knowledge of the whole facts. When UT announced that they were quiting football, it came as a complete surprise to the supporters. so much so that they had to cancel the final year which would have been 1975. Your statistics don't show how angry the people were back then. They said that the university was loosing money with football, a sudden and un expected turn of events for folks who had worked hard for years to build up that program. Tampa Stadium was built for UT. Peopple had worked hard for years to get that. B ack then, the stadium only held 43,000. The pres of the quarterback club quit and the club disbanded some time right after that. A lot of people felt betrayed. What I'm telling you is that this is what you are up against. Just for your info, a couple of members of the university told me that there was no shortage from the football program, the shortage was from elsewhere. I won't go any further than that, but what I'm trying to tell you is that there probably a lot of angry people that feel like they got burned and maybe USF should reach out to them
  17. I've seen support for the then local team of Tampa U. br built up to where the attendance was up in the 30 to 40'000. Now remember this was a college that only had less than 2000 students enrolled. I promise you if they had waited for the alumni to build up, it never would have happened. It took local businessmen meeting on monday morning lunch and doing things to put the University on the front page of the sports pages of the local papers. They did it by sometimes inviting guest speakers and by getting the opposing team to speak to the group via telephone. Of course the head coach would talk also about little things that had happened that week with the team members and the team When they got strong local support, they were more able to get the localpapers to put the school (UT) before UF. thats when the numbers really picked up. They did it with a group called the Tampa Quarterback Club. Talk around to some of the locals who were in that club. They could probably tell you more.
  18. Coach Rodriguez seems to be a little over concerned, stating he would like the weather to be colder and he would like some more support from the students.Perhaps he senses a little over confidence in his players. If they are down and our boys are up, it could make for an interesting game. Also the weather down here has been about the same as its going tobe in Morgantown.m Lets hope it matters enough.
  19. Winning will take care of that in time. We do have the bucs to contend with. They fill the stadium up even when they loose. Also the Gators are a little over 100 miles away and a lot of area people support them. It's just a matter of time. :
