Guys, Mandel says something like every week about how that 119 is not anything thorough. You can't rank every team and expect it to work in terms of teams being ahead of teams they've beaten. Pittsburgh beat Cincy, Cincy beat USF and USF beat Pittsburgh, so that should make for some fun sorting out the head-to-head in those three.

There are 49 teams in I-A with six or more wins, so I'd use that number as a safe starting point for any USF ranking. There are probably some five-win teams that can make a case for being better, and there are some seven-win teams you could argue are worse.

There is some writer on ESPN.com who makes fun of people who fuss over where their team is ranked between 26 - 119.

Some sort of comment about leaving the choice to the monkeys on the typewriters in the back room.

In other words - who cares.

Scour ESPN.com for those articles.  His replies are very hilarious.

Yes, but USF and Pitt both have better records than Cincy, so one would assume they would be ahead of Cincy (granted they have played a tough schedule).  If they all 3 had the same record and beat each other, then it would be difficult separating them.

31 through 99 means nothing in these polls.  I believe you would find the top 30  and bottom 20 get the real research and thought put into it.  That's why I think Massey's combined rankings offers the best view as it averages all known semi-legitimate polls.

BullsFaninTX: The fact that USF has one more win than Cincy isn't much of an advantage in these rankings. Cincy had the toughest schedule in the Big East. If you compare the two schools' BCS nonconference opponents, do you rate USF ahead because it beat lowly North Carolina instead of losing to top-ranked Ohio State like Cincinnati did? Cincy lost to a ranked Virginia Tech team, which holds more water than USF losing at Kansas.

You can argue back and forth on this all day. I was just using those three schools as an easy example of why you can't do the "A beat B, so A should be ranked higher" argument too much ...

the goggle and green club dont seem to understand how SOS effects rankings and perceptions of a particular team

usf needs to stop scheduling such bad teams

Yeah,  Oklahome, Alabama, Arkansas, Miami, Penn State, Auburn, Florida, all suck.   ::)

You can't have all your games, all the time against top 25 teams.  First it would be impossible to do, unless you want to be on the road for all five of your OOC games, and secondly, why would you want to get beat up and not have an opportunity to evaluate your team in game situations?
