This is a stupid article.

Those are the going rates for those positions.

It's called supply and demand.  Economics 101.

If you don't pay those salaries, those positions will not be filled by quality individuals, simple as that.

Incredibly idiotic article.  In any organization the head of the organization is of course going to be making more than the rank and file workers.  While professors primarily are involved in educating the students, the President of the University has so many other responsibilities above and beyond just educating.  Just like a CEO of a company does more than just sell or manufacture or whatever industry the company is involved with.

Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for.

And I think some of the doddering, senile professors I had to conted with should not be paid more, but should have their pay docked every time we hear "back when I worked in the field, back in the early 70's, we used to ..." 8-)

I might ask this good man how many miniutes has our anthropology professors gotten USF on NATIONAL TV. Jim Leavitt and the football program are a bargain.

Also, as a professor myself, when 40,000 students will line up to pay $30 each to watch me lecture, then I will want that million dollars. Until then I'll be happy with my salary.

Actually the going rate is a bit less than that per hour- per student. If you figure only in state tuition, students are paying about $8.5 for each hour of class time (45 hours in a semester). Of course I have one class with 80 students so that would be about $680 per hour for that class.... So a three hour lecture would run you personally about $25.5!  Now if I could only get 30k to show up!
