I hope our DL will surprise everyone!  :)

I think having two starting corners with so much experience, and speed will bode well for our DL.  If we can tighten coverage, take just a fraction of a second off the timing of the opponents passing game then that will give our DL more time to converge.

These rankings really bode well for the success of this defense.  I would expect the DL just needs to be decent for this to be a good to great defense- clog the middle, DE's be disruptive and we could be great.

Sounds about right.

USF - Linebacker U ???

Two words, Wally Burnham. He's the one that does a phenomenal job recruiting these kids.

Now if we could only land a QB that is actually a QB, instead of "athletes."

Funny how we put so much stock into our higher rankings yet when a publication ranks us low, we diminish their value....

True but somewhere in there lies the middle.  Would you agree with the one publication that say we're with the 5th best DB's in OUR CONFERENCE??  Yet we're returning 4 starters in the defensive backfield with a defense that was like the 8th ranked pass defense in the nation last year...no other BE team is returning that many DB's.  I kid you not one publication had us ranked there that low.

I do think it is indicative of some keen observations by CFN.  They just didn't see 4 returning starters and flung up a ranking.  They cited the fact that last year's starting FS, Carlton Williams, who at times last year I thought played outstanding, is now having a tough time locking down the nickel back spot.   Them citing a lack of depth at LB as a reason we're not higher, which I agree with too, although Leavitt has said on more than one occasion he puts Mompremier up there with those three.

Another thing important is that despite having 2 top 10 nationally ranked units, we were still ranked 18th overall defense.  That also tells me they fairly graded us based on the new DL, and properly reflected our loss of experience in that area.

# 7 is great i hope they live up to the hype

is the drop off at LB that big?

i thought the 2 deep was solid.

what happens next year at LB?

#18 defense says we have a chance in every game we play IF we do not turn the ball over.

Next year we'll be young at LB, but we'll still be solid if Moffitt comes back.
