Pitt Football Adds Three TV Games for this Season

June 5, 2006

Pitt figures to be among the most visible football programs in the Big East - and nationally - this year with the announcement of three more television dates for the 2006 season.

The Panthers' new television dates include:

·         The Sept. 2 season opener against Virginia, which will be a 7 p.m. ESPNU telecast at Heinz Field.

·         The Sept. 16 Michigan State game at Heinz Field, which will be an ABC split-national telecast (with Miami-Louisville) at 3:30 p.m.

·         The Nov. 4 game at South Florida, which will be the Big East Game of the Week and produced by ESPN Regional.

The Panthers' other TV contests include the Sept. 8 game at Cincinnati (ESPN2), the Oct. 13 game at Central Florida (ESPN) and the Nov. 16 West Virginia contest (ESPN) at Heinz Field. Additional television clearances are expected to be added as the season progresses.

I'm getting the Gameplan package and all ESPN Regional games should be on that. So looks like I'll get the Pitt game :-)

I like the idea of being on TV, but the Big East needs to understand, USF is a night-time kickoff school, if they want a crowd, let us have it at night.

Isn't the BE game of the week usually at noon?

ESPN regional is usually on at the school's discretion because it is a regional broadcast.

However, if they want to put us on a big network (ESPN or ESPN2), I'll play whenever they tell us they wanna air it.

You know what you may be right, I'm think of ESPN Plus aren't I?

Just looked it up:

ESPN Regional/BIG EAST

Game of the Week. Additional Channels will be added prior to the season (Stations may

not carry all games every week – check local listings or the BIG EAST web site for schedule).

USF Tampa, Sarasota, St. Petersburg – WFTS (ABC)

All games were at Noon last season.

That's going to suck for the HSC if/when they move this game to noon. If the schedule stays roughly the same, it'll mean parade/after party Friday night, then having to turn right back around and do tailgate/spirit patio in the AM hours before the game. Plus, attendance at either Friday night or Saturday morning's events could be largely affected by the other.
