Smazza,

I know you are saying it because your always displeased, but there is no justification to see this as a strange hire.

1) He's coached in Florida for a few years

2) He's been a defensive coodinator

3) He's young

Smazza wont ever be happy

Why is that?

Because the hire didn't involve firing CJL and hiring Butch Davis.

Two national championship rings, NFL experience, local talent, solid coaching results...  sounds like a good hire to me.

FIU's Clark to coach USF defensive line

On Thursday night, Florida International defensive coordinator Bernard Clark told me he needed to talk with his wife Tammy about an offer to coach USF's defensive line and sleep on it before he made a decision.

He called me at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning with news that he'd accepted USF's offer and was coming home to Tampa. Clark, 39, is a Leto graduate who starred as a linebacker at Miami, helping the Hurricanes to two national titles and spending two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He's run FIU's defense the past two years and will replace Earl Lane, who resigned two weeks ago and is now defensive line coach at LSU.

I'll have plenty more on this later today and tomorrow, but Clark couldn't seem happier about the chance to come home to Tampa, be closer to his parents and his wife's family and move into a top conference like the Big East. It's a tough sacrifice to go from being a coordinator to being a position coach, but he seems to recognize all the positives, on a personal and professional level, that could come with this move.

sounds like a good move to me.

realistically it is the same as kravitz moving to nc st

more $$$ and better fball conference

hopefully in 7 yrs or so we will be getting assistants from other bcs conferences.

UL, Pitt, UNC, WVA all have an offense 100 times better than FAU....but then again if he is competing against Rod Smith's offense in practice he will look a genius everyday of the week except Saturday's.

Are you ever not bitter?

Because the hire didn't involve firing CJL and hiring Butch Davis.

I consider it strange for a number of reasons:

1.  This isn't one of "leavitt's boys"

2.  Its a DC moving to a position coach

3.  This guy is young and shows promise

That said, strange doesnt equate to bad.  But honestly, who here said we'd hire THIS guy as DL coach before the article popped up?  It looks like a GOOD hire to me, but still plenty surprising.
