Looking to what he Replied to, think he was referring to Tchewa and Miguel ...

Should have been more specific, but yes, that was who I was referring to.

Here is their schedule from last year.  Not sure USF couldn't have done as well with that schedule once we got past the first 2 weeks. Just saying that the competition level will be different game in and game out once we get to AAC conference play.

The official 2022-23 Men's Basketball schedule for the Kennesaw State University Owls

Well they did manage to beat Stetson......

with the exception of UCF our conference wins were against Tulsa #316 SMU #183 and ECU #180 (Pomeroy rankings)

I'm not saying they will be all conference but I think they can manage to hang with the bottom of our conference.

Gregory almost beat Houston...

The margin of error in modern college basketball isn't the talent on the floor but the ability of the coach with X's and O's and most importantly the ability of the coach to motivate the players to go 100% all the time.  90% is no longer good enough to beat even an "average" team.  There is just too much parody.  I liked Gregory but I don't think he got 100% out of his players.  He got about 90% this year and back with David Collins and company he only got about 75% or less.  We have had the talent but lacked the motivation.  Anyone can get players these days.

Gregory almost beat a lot of good teams. He almost beat Auburn last year too. He almost beat a lot a bad teams as well. His players regress (inability to develop players?). Yetna and Durr had outstanding freshmen seasons and regressed. More talented players usually sit the bench on his teams as well.

If Brian Gregory brought in 3 A-Sun guys we'd want him fired. Just sayin'.

These 3 A-Sun guys are probably a better 3-guard combination than any that USF has had in its history.

We are not talking just any players from the A Sun. We are talking about the leading scorer on the team that won the conference, and the defensive player of the year in the A Sun conference. Both are great pick ups. Both will make USF a better team next year. Both probably could have been picked up by Power 5 teams.

Need to hold on to Tchewa and Miguel though.

I agree with these three being great pickups; they are talented players and have grown together for 3 years under the same coach. This will make things a lot easier for Coach A-R with installing his system.

I disagree with wanting to keep Tchewa though. He had 14 blocks in 57 games the last 2 seasons. This is not good for a 7' center.

I'd argue a coach bringing his own guys is different than Gregory going to get guys he never coached before, in regards to them being a level below.

In 2021 Western Kentucky football hired an OC from Houston Baptist (FCS). That coach brought along his QB Bailey Zappe and a receiver Jerreth Sterns. In year 1 their offense went from 19 PPG to 44 PPG. The QB threw for 6000 yards and 62 TD's. The receiver had 1900 receiving yards and 17 TD's.

Sometimes a trust with the coach and a familiarity with his system outweighs the fact that the player was originally recruited to a lower level.

Agreed! And not because the players are in a "weaker" conference means that are worse players than those in the AAC.

All three of these guys should help us. All of them shoot the ball well from the floor and from 3. Youngblood and Jennings both around 80% at the line, too. A bonus.

Since I did not see anyone post this, here are highlights of Youngblood. This guy is a scorer!

By the way, Tchewa ranked 1095th in blocked shots last year. Hundreds of smaller players were better at blocking shots. If you are 7' tall and not blocking or altering shots, you are giving the other team too many opportunities to score.

Stand by my statement that if Gregory brought in those same guys this Board would be all over him.

I would say that those three have better stays and will do better than some that Gregory brought in. I won’t mention names but you can look them up if you are interested

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
