Hes just letting the new coach know hes an option. Smart on his part

I see no way in hell Leavitt returns to USF as an assistant.  Even I (the biggest Leavitt apologist alive today) see his ego never allowing that to happen.

Imagine this in every article... and on every game broadcast

"Coach Jim Leavitt, who was rehired by USF 15 years after he was fired for . . . ."

He would relive the worst day of his life over and over and over.   Would that appeal to you?

Once again, it rests mostly with Tampa media.  When I was new out here, Frank Kush came back to ASU.  No one looked back X years to say stupid **** repeatedly.  That's not how they work.

Also, he clearly wants to come back, so he must be okay with someone making a comment.

The fired coach will get $2.75 million, ending his wrongful termination suit. TAMPA ? One year and three days after Jim Leavitt was fired, USF reached a settlement with...

"When I was new out here"

Well there was a TBP.  But I get your point.  The internet is not news media but there are a lot of pretenders/jackalopes.

If I were AD, I would go for Jim.  Keep the OC and Special teams coach.  We had something like a 33 ranked offense and you get continuity there.

Jim can bring in someone to help on defense.  It would work.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
