Why?

More talent, higher ceiling...he needs to play though.  I would rather have a potential 4+ year starter than a 6th year guy who is out of options coming back for what?...6 wins, best case scenario.  The schedule will be easier but the talent is still poor at most positions.  We need a long term solution, not a stop gap.

I was kind of thinking Marsh, but he has already stated that the grass is basically not always greener - he is listed as a sophomore, but he might have 3 years of eligibility (he would have gotten the Covid year and I can not remember if he took a redshirt as well)

He didn't get a lot of offers in the portal. This year he will have more options. It also depends on Brown's development.

There's always next year, and then there is always the year after that!

Some you will hate this because it's the Times. Some will hate it because it's Romano.  Some will hate it because of the position he is taking.

John Romano | There is no justifying a 4-25 record under Scott. The hope is that integrity and devotion succeed in the long run.

Really, the only selling point for Scott’s continued employment is the man himself. People gravitate toward Scott. His players have stayed out of trouble and have rallied around him. Boosters have put money into facilities for him. Co-workers genuinely like and trust him.

There are no whispers about his temper, his ethics, his loyalty. The irony is that if Scott were fired today, USF would be looking for a new coach with precisely the same qualities that once made him seem so attractive.

Over his last 10 quarters Gerry passed for 501 yards, 6 TD's, and 0 picks. Plus 250 rushing yards and two touchdowns. That's against 3 solid teams in ECU, Cincy, and Tulane too. He wasn't here in spring and came in right at the beginning of fall practice. Just imagine if he has a whole offseason with the team? He will have a full offseason after this season and should give us a nice year b4 he moves on with his life. He is also mentoring the younger QBs so that they will be ready when he leaves.

I see nothing but good here. May the best qb win the competition next year.

That's one of the things that makes me *slightly* hesitant to hit reset on it all. Gerry was just finding his form. If he doesn't hurt his throwing shoulder, I still think we would have beaten Tulane, or at the very least been in it in the final minutes. He finally hit on some deep passes, the long TD run. It seemed over his last couple games that he was getting into his groove. Who knows what that looks like with a new coach and yet another new OC here.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
