Some interesting info here:

The money would be spent to boost its rankings and try to get into a highly regarded clique of research universities.

I was at the USF Alumni Association Alumni Academy today and we had VPAD Michael Kelly as a guest speaker.  He gave a great speech about the state of college athletics -- almost all of which the members of this board of discussed ad naseum.  He did say he (along with the Board of Trustees and President Law) believed USF is in a good position to be part of the "haves" and not the "have nots" ... because the 363 NCAA Division 1 athletic budgets range from $1 million to $250 million (his #s) and that is not longer sustainable... The "haves" will be the top 100 or so athletic programs (mostly football playing schools, with a handful like Gonzaga that don't).

One really interesting tidbit I had not heard before -- USF will have a plan of more upgrades for USF's athletic facilities beyond the OCS.  He talked at length about how upgrading The Corral for the volleyball team was critical to show how USF is investing in men AND women "equally" under the Title IX guidelines... it's why USF built new locker rooms for the Women's soccer team and the volleyball team.  He didn't go into any further details.

I think he said the OCS info will be after Labor Day, at the next Board meeting.

Thanks a lot Jim for this info!! It’s news like this that keeps us upbeat and hopeful for the future.

MIndy McCord has been tweeting that something is coming 9/1.  I guess this is what she was referring to?

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
