I think most people wouldn’t care but it would be nice to at least test that theory, we have more than enough data to know no one has any interest in a team that loses to teams they have never even heard of before.

Theory was tested in a way...2007 as a member of the Big East Conference.

Per Wikipedia:

-- We opened the season with a win at home vs. Elon in front of 33,639.

-- We then played and beat #17 Auburn at their place on ESPN2 in front of 82,617.

-- We come home 2 weeks later after a buy week and beat unranked UNC as the #23 ranked team on ESPN in front of 37,693.

-- The next week is a Friday home game vs. #5 West Virginia as the #18 team and beat them on ESPN2 in front of 67,012 (1st ever sold out home game).

-- We then beat FAU on the road on ESPNU as the #6 team in front of 21,106. (FAU's highest recorded attendance, at that time, in either Lockhart Stadium or Dolphin Stadium)

-- A week later we're back at home, ranked as the #5 and beat UCF on ESPNU in front of 65,948.

-- Then the wheels fall off at Rutgers as the #2 in front of 44,267 on ESPN.

////

////

-- Even after losing 3 games in a row and falling to #20, we play Cincy at home on ABC in front of 57,379.

-- Then, go on the road unranked and win at Syracuse.

-- A week later we play Louisville at home as an unranked team on ESPNU in front of 57,288.

My point is, we had great opponents, a winning team, and the fans showed up huge to see the big name opponents and to see us beat them.  Even after we fell apart and lost the ranking, we still garnered over 57k vs. Louisville.

True facts.......AND wonderful yet difficult memories.

People don't like facts.  To be fair they are facts of the past.  Truth is misery is current_cy.   That can be changed.  If people choose to believe that can happen........

Yeah I'm back Bitches!!

Right now is the Big12 or stay in AAC. Those thinking the ACC are dreaming, as long as Miami and FSU are there.

is it really so bad for miami/fsu to allow usf in?

it is 2022 not 1982.the world is smaller

wouldnt you rather have usf in than orlando?

Unfortunately that is just the way it is. Why would that conference need three schools from the state of Florida? Simply, we don’t move the needle enough to warrant the need of a third Florida  school.

Yet the ACC has 4 schools from North Carolina, the Big 12 has 4 schools from Texas and the PAC 12 has 4 schools from California.  I get we don't move the needle enough but it's kind of a thing with 3 of the P5.

GO BULLS!

True but most of those schools were established with the conference…not add ons. Anyone thinking Miami and FSU are letting us in are delusional.

This is a great post. More people cared back in 2007 because USF was in the Big East, the Big East had a BCS tie-in and the BCS was considered the major league of college football. No one cares about G5 and it is considered the minor leagues of college football. USF could go undefeated for five straight seasons coming up in Conference USA 2.0 and no one is going to care. It’s going to get even worse in the next few years because there will now be four colleges in the state of Florida who are in what is perceived to be major league P5 conferences and USF is left behind in the minors. Minor league college football will work in small towns (see Greenville NC), however it will never work in a pro sports town such as Tampa.

This is an excellent post and spot on. We need a better conference. What some don’t get is we have almost no chance of landing a P5 conference unless we have an on campus stadium. For better or for worse that is simply the way it is.For better or for worse that is simply the way it is.
