So, here is the history.....

We were planning on joining C-USA in 2001, when we went I-A, but one school blocked it, UAB.

UAB was bitter that they were made to wait 2 years when they moved up before joining the league, so they made us wait.

C-USA knew we we were planning on being in the league 2001 and 2002, so they promised to help us with scheduling, that is why we got some of those games.

(I know you aren't talking about the same games, because the C-USA games are different ones, but we were forced to be an Independent for 2 years due to UAB)

One more tidbit, for years, fans thought it was Southern Miss blocking us, but it was really UAB. Southern Miss was one of the best in the league back then, and our AD let fans blame the wrong school as part of hoping to build a rivalry.

Sort of like that onside kick last week.

interesting. Thanks for the insight.

I really appreciate our history and believe we have all the potential in the world.

I think now with the renewed commitment to athletics that we can earn our way into a better conference.

I'm just tired of people on here griping about our conference partners.

we have done nothing to separate ourselves from them.

It sucks to still be in the aac but these teams have been using us a beating stick for 4 plus seasons. Time to show up the field and win our way back to relevance.

Southern Miss and UAB are jealous of our style.

The USM coach did mouth off about us, though?

Yes he said "Quality not quantity" referring to us.

I hope for the day when we can dunk on all these people once more.

That's ********.   We have done things to separate ourselves from them, you just keep minimalizing it so you can take your holier than though approach towards other Bulls fans that were there and remember those things

I would love to know how people look at the BEAST defector’s records since moving on, the Big 12 new addition’s records, heck even Nebraska and then conclude that having a .500 in conference record in a BCS conference 8 seasons after becoming FBS wasn’t doing what you were supposed to. The issue wasn’t that we were failing at that point it’s that we said screw success let’s try to invent all the ways imaginable to fail.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

"For me, I never considered it that way (as a stepping stone), honestly. When I was offered the head job at South Florida, and I'm sincere about this, I never thought I would ever go anywhere."

    Jim Leavitt
