I think it means that they’re trying to bring them in before FSU/Clemson depart in order to help keep them from departing… but I could be both

ACC considering adding Cal, Stanford & SMU or just Cal & Stanford, sources told . 1st report by . SMU has a $10 million exit fee to leave AAC w/less than 27 months notice so that number could double. In May, ACC source told league had no interest in expanding. “We already have too many mouths to feed,” source said then. Today? “Obviously a lot has happened in the past few months”
