G5 needs an auto bid to the playoffs.

In what other sport is it acceptable to create a completely imbalanced playing field which virtually prohibits half of the competitors from playing for a Championship?

It would probably take a lawsuit from the G5 schools to do this.

Agreed and I would imagine that the G5s would have a strong case.  Further a lawsuit could be the fuse that lights the flame that finally forces the farce that is the FBS to treat all teams fairly.  Alliteration intended.

Worst part is that it's an easy fix.  The playoffs will get expanded at some point.  Just take the P5 champs, the  highest ranked G5 champ, and the two highest ranked non-champs, regardless of P5/G5 status, as at-large participants, with no more than two teams from anyone conference in.  Last season, it would have looked like this:

Alabama (SEC Champ) vs. Western Michigan (G5 Champ)

Clemson (ACC Champ) vs. Oklahoma (Big12 Champ)

Ohio State (BigTen at-large) vs. USC (PAC12 at-large)

Washington (PAC12 Champ) vs. Penn State (BigTen Champ)

Yes seems easy.  The only reason it hasn't happened is that the blue bloods don't want the likes of WMU, USF, et al joining their party.

Imagine the ire if #15 WMU (I think that's where they ended up last year?) made the playoffs over everyone in-between them and the top 6 or 7...

Easy?

Might want to ask ND or BYU about this.....

Posted this on another thread:

This got me thinking (possibly with green and gold goggles on).  Out of the G5 schools, it seems to me that USF and UCF have the highest ceilings (large student population, large TV markets, Florida recruiting, etc.).  So, I would imagine that on the next round of expansion, we'd be the front runners (Assuming football doesn't tank again).  IMO, it would be better for the ACC to take us, and virtually lock down Florida or for the Big 12 to take us and establish a presence in Florida.

If the ACC placed us in the Atlantic division with FSU and UCF in the Coastal division with Miami, I believe our attendance would skyrocket.  Having FSU, Clemson, Wake Forest, NC State, Lousiville, Syracuse, BC, and UCF on our schedule every year would do wonders.

BTW, this is just a what if scenario.  I don't need, "FSU and Miami won't let it happen", especially since I've never seen a credible source confirming this.

The ultimate dream scenario. If only.

The ACC is the only conference that's  better fit for USF than the AAC.

We ABSOLUTELY do not belong in the B12. It would be a money grab, and we would be sorry when the B12 is disbanded to go to 4 leagues.

I'd support a move to the ACC, but NOT to the B12.

Make it so, Apis!!

We should offer 2 for 1's with UF, FSU & UM for these reasons:

These games that sell 50k-60k tickets are equivalent to 2-3 AAC home games for us.

Increased overall season average ticket sales per game.

Keeping it in state reduces travel costs.  Bus travel instead of charter jets.

Playing the Big 3 in the state can only elevate us.

Playing these teams forces USF fans that have grown up fans of these schools to pick an allegiance to one or the other.  Having a degree from a school should weigh much more than a childhood favorite.
