UF is 'too good' to even play us.  Even back in the day, they had to be threatened by the state legislature to play FSU when they weren't yet in the top tier.  I find it hard to believe that they in favor of elevating the status of any G5 team in FL, especially one in Tampa.

Probably because it is more a of a threat to FSU and Miami than to them.

Agreed. I see no reason UF would support USF moving to the Big 12. Only downsides for the Gators, especially from a recruiting standpoint. Texas and OU would gain a stronger foothold for top tier talent in the state, which is of no benefit to the Gators.

Haha. Boren is a little girl.

That was a political answer.  They get big money from the TV networks, keeping them happy is good business.  That means saying things like "we're friends" right before you stab them in the back.

Keep dropping periodic hints on no expansion so when the final announcement happens (no expansion), nobody is shocked and the B12 minimizes the crap they get in the press.

I'm completely okay with this. I certainly want them to join the Big12, but the best odds for USF is no expansion. The AAC is gaining respectability by the day, and will be making a strong case as the P6 conference within a year or two.

Respectability means nothing unless we can secure a much better TV contract...

... at least double of what it is now.

True, but if we can stay intact I think we have a good shot at securing a better TV deal. I think the competitiveness is already developing quite nicely.

Anybody else notice that the presentation slide identifying participants on behalf of USF indicates that Jeff Vinik is "USF Faculty" in addition to "Owner, Tampa Bay Lightning." I didn't know he was USF faculty? I'm aware of the medical school partnership, but does he teach something at USF?

What that guy has done to turn around the fortunes of my favorite hockey team, and is doing to redevelop my favorite downtown, are nothing short of amazing. If he's also USF faculty working hard to educate fellow Bulls and get USF into the Big XII, what can I say? Secular saint? Guy is awesome.

As big hockey fan and Lightning fan I agree. He is amazing. I tear up during every community hero presentation at the home games. We couldn't have asked for a better ambassador for our presentation. Powerful, effective and generous.

Vinik is all-in, that's what sets him apart from other leaders. He's all about Tampa, so if it builds up Tampa, he's into it. It's easy to wish him success, because his success is Tampa's success.

I'm hearing it was a done deal until the presidents saw the So Flo uniforms and we were unanimously out of the running.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
