Step 1: Launch Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State into the PAC 16 as many have predicted. Step 2: TCU and Kansas State jump ship to the SEC. Step 3: Fox and ESPN wring their little hands and Prop up the American as the new Power 5 conference. Get the American to sign a GOR to seal the deal with Fox doing the Conference network prep. The American takes in WVU, Army and two future projects in Old Dominion and Georgia State. That adds the NY City, Washington DC, Newport News/Newark and Atlanta Markets. Step 4: The B1G sucks it up and takes in Kansas and Iowa State. This leaves out only Baylor which is toxic at this point. Step 5: The ACC whines because theirs no one left for them to reach out too. Since ESPN is only happy when someone is unhappy, this is a win for everyone. Well everyone except the ACC. This is a short-term solution. at least one current P5 school would have to leave.

No one wants to give the AAC playoff access or P5 money.
Local Bully Posted August 10, 2016 Group: Member Topic Count: 3 Content Count: 97 Reputation: 41 Days Won: 1 Joined: 08/09/2016 Share Posted August 10, 2016 I see a lot of reasons listed for other candidates like Cincy, Houston, UConn, Memphis, BYU, CSU, but I think we check all of the boxes: Great attendance when we were not piss poor (thanks Skip). Huge Market One of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the nation Play in a top notch stadium that is hosting the NCAA's. Unlike that puke enducing bleacher set at that other school Excellant Academics We have shown that we can play at high levels, Second round NCAAM a couple of years ago, #2 in BCS in 2007.

But a low number of TV viewers isn't that valuable. Even the more exciting programs like Cincy, USF, Houston do not have that many viewers given the AAC competition. AAC has to create demand within its own ranks. Each member needs to grow its own fanbase with matchups against other conference mates. Obviously if you plug an AAC team into a P5 conference there is an instant boost in fans due to better competition, more money, more recruits, better bowls. It is one of those things where the sum is greater than (P5) or less than (not P5), the parts. AAC members need a way to generate that interest intrinsically. I think the only way to do that is by at least having some 1 and 2 loss teams every year, breaking the top 10, and also upsets against P5 teams. It's a long-term project, but we're a short-term fan-base. Unless the Big XII knocks on our door, this will have to be the plan going forward.
