Did anyone post Harlan's quotes about B12.  He says, without actually saying it, that he is working behind the scenes to get USF in B12.

"I'm very confident of where we sit and what we're doing," Bulls athletic director Mark Harlan said Friday.

"I'm not going to comment on any specific conversation that I have had with anybody in that particular conference," Harlan said. "But suffice to say that I am always in contact with leaders in our industry and always will remain so."

"I did read that (Cincinnati Enquirer) article and I certainly respect that institution or any institution's approach," Harlan said. "But I do know that there are different ways of doing things, and I'm very confident in our strategy."

"When deck chairs start moving around again, if there is an again, it's so unpredictable that it's almost tireless effort to try to predict when those things come up," Harlan said. "So I've just decided that the best thing we can do is just focus on ourselves and rise to the things that I know would make us great if things happened again.

"We are serious about trying to add great value to (the American Athletic) conference. It's very important to me and this institution that we do so. But also, we're aspirational, as we should be. And if there are things that happen, we want to make sure that we're in the best position, despite the fact that maybe approaches to those things are different from institution to institution."

What else can he say?  There was an Open Record request at USF like the one at Cincy but the USF request came up with nothing.

"Last week, the Tampa Bay Times requested any correspondence (emails, letters, formal documents, etc.) in the past eight months between Harlan or USF president Judy Genshaft and Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby or any of three Big 12 presidents believed to be part of a Big 12 expansion subcommittee.  None exists, the school indicated"

Yes, but read what he is saying.  He is flat out saying, without directly saying, that he is working behind scenes to get USF in B12.  That probably means he is working phones and or in person, rather than submitting documents.  Re-read these quotes:

"I'm very confident of where we sit and what we're doing,"

"But suffice to say that I am always in contact with leaders in our industry and always will remain so."

"But I do know that there are different ways of doing things, and I'm very confident in our strategy."

I have moe confidence in Harlan's ability to strategically position USF for expansion down the road than Woolard did in his time here. USF may still not make the leap but Harlan appears to be more assertive in nature while Woolard always reminded me of someone who was moe passive and at times asleep at the wheel.

You hit it perfectly.  Harlan is a more aggressive go getter than Woolard.  Woolard was at the wheel when BE imploded and did next to nothing to get USF out of it.

And this is based on the lack of evidence in the email request?  So we are assuming phone calls are being made now but were not being made then?

Now I understand.

yes, sending out Guava Pies to all Big 12 leaders and complimentary lap dances at Mons... all paid in cash so no paper trail for Open Record Laws

******* Doug. We'd be in the SEC right now if it wasn't for him.

Thanks for confirming what I brought up earlier. Two posts about it on this message board so it must be true ...

We may not know for years the benefits of Dougie's tenure at USF. Patience. Future history will be W's vindication
