I think early on he called it the 'transfer market'.  Spent over 1/2 of it talking about the portal and lesser extent, covid.  College athletics has changed forever.  The transfer thing is so hard on coaches.  A guy plays well - he wants to leave. A guy plays poorly and doesn't get playing time - he wants to leave.

And something I hadn't thought of. The extra year of eligibility from covid isn't just this year. It affects all the players not just seniors. So a FR last year is a FR this year and so on.

I thought it was interesting how recruiting is vastly different for basketball compared to football. Most telling is that he has to continue to recruit the students who are already on the team.

It is the same for football. Believe coaches think that signing someone like Timmy McClain and keeping them for four years is difficult.  If a P5 school is looking for a QB...............

Well one of the ways it is different (according to BG) is that once a BB commits they don’t recruit him any longer.

Was talking about keeping a kid on the team once he is here.  You don't think Scott will be trying to keep McClain here for 4 years?

So intrigued by this team this year. What a wildcard they are. That said, as BG mentions, we currently have rostered the two highest-rated recruits in school history in Murphy and Walker. If those two guys play like it, and everyone else finds and plays their role, who knows? I also love what he said about Sam Hines. When I watched his video after he committed, I compared him to Fred Lewis from back in the glory days of the early 90s. The way BG describes him makes it sound like the comparison is valid - versatile guy, stepping up a level (Lewis came to us from UTampa), who will do whatever it takes and plays hard all the time. Also interesting that BG says he previously recruited Matos and McCreary - two rugged interior guys. So many new faces and so many question marks. We'll see. Given our history, odds are it won't go smoothly, but I'm keen to see how this plays out. I don't think it would be shocking either way to see them win 10 games or 20 games.

How does on go about that if he already is the starter? What else can you promise the guy? A better endorsement from Busch Gardens?

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
