MLB Season Talk

Opening up a general MLB Season talk (non-Rays specific).  I realize that everybody has their own favorite teams and not are all Rays fans, so feel free to comment on your favorite team here as the season progresses.

I'll start off with the AL East cause I'm a Rays fan and don't follow the rest of the divisions very closely.  My predictions for the year are as follows:

1.  Yankees = Just too good and too much power all over the place, along with strong Pitching.  Who is able to stand up to them through a full year.

2.  Blue Jays = I think this is a toss up between the Jays and the Rays.  The Jays might have a better hitting lineup and the Rays have taken a bit of a hit on Pitching.

3.  Rays = Again, could take 2nd place.  Losing Morton, Snell and Anderson (at least most of the year) are all big hits to the Pitching staff.  However, the lineup is back in place, and the Rays always seem to find a way to make the Pitching staff a lot better than you expect.  This team will still be in play for a possible Wild Card.

4.  Red Sox = It seems like this team flip flops each year from being really good to being really bad.  With that logic this team should be good.  But last year they had so many holes, I don't know that they have addressed them all.  So, this team could finish anywhere from 2nd to last.  NEB - You know this team better than the rest of us?

5.  Orioles - Who Cares!

The Rays all of a sudden have been sucking and so have the Lightning.  The TB teams are finally coming back down to Earth.  Hopefully it is just a bump in the road, otherwise it has been fun while it lasted.  Until football season starts.  😀

Red Sox in 1st! Don’t think it will last too long but glad they did not fold after that opening series.

Red Sox still holding first. We have the best short stop in the majors (statically), JD Martinez is a hitting machine, and the starting pitching is improving. Again, it’s early but it’s nice to be the first team to hit 20 wins and be 3 1/2 games up. Finally, the bottom of the line up is starting to hit! Even Bobby D. Is getting hits! It’s a long season and the team could be in first or be in fourth by June but I like the start. I’ll be at Fenway on Wed for the As game and two weeks later for the Braves game. It’s going to be awesome to be back at Fenway  again!

The Red Sox have certainly been a surprise.  I thought they had another year or 2 to go of rebuilding before they would be good.  But with the money they have they can get good real quick.

You can certainly win this division.  Its early, but so far both the Yankees and Rays are pretty average at this point.  Long way to go though.

Hey Jonesy, Do you happen to know if it’s possible for three playoff teams to come from the same division? I’ve lost track of the new playoff format (I know there are more teams).

Yes, it happened last year.

Tampa Bay won the division.  I remember the Rays playing Toronto in the first round = 3 game series, and then playing the Yankees in a 5 game series.

BUT, everything was all different and wacky last year.  Not sure if that applies to this year or not.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
