But the topic is?

I was joking......I think he is going to get some real playing time with the Rays this year.  They use a lot of pitchers and with Morton and Snell gone, he will get his shot.

Good Luck Shane!!

1 inning of shutout ball for Sugar Shane today.   Allowed 1 hit and had 1 K in his Spring debut for the Rays

Not being real familiar with the dynamics of Spring ball, Cash said he was going to be used as a starter so is this a normal way for some starters to get work during this time?

Yes, they used 6 pitchers in the game in the 6 inning game.  At least one other could be a starter as well.  They are just getting work in at this point

The camp roster is reduced to 53 as manager Kevin Cash wants to focus more on the core group.

PORT CHARLOTTE — Shane McClanahan has had a dazzling showing for the Rays this spring, but the flame-throwing lefty was one of nine players, including several highly rated prospects, optioned to the minors Tuesday morning.

The Rays are making moves this week to trim their camp roster down mostly to the core players competing for spots on the 26-man roster they will open the season with on April 1.

Also optioned to the minors were infielders Vidal Brujan, Kevin Padlo and Taylor Walls; outfielder Josh Lowe, pitchers Brent Honeywell, Luis Patino and Drew Strotman, and two-way player Brendan McKay. All on are on the 40-man roster so they have to be optioned.

100% contract related. MLB needs to lower the free agency requirement as guys who should be playing in the pros aren’t - which SHOULDN’T be the case ever. Just one other way that owners are ruining the game based on protecting their own profits and turning new generations away from the game itself.

Pretty good article that will tell you all about how free agency works...it’s a pretty short read too.

An overview of the free agency rules in baseball, including the history of free...
