On the Pete Rose topic.  Didn't he bet, or at least get caught, while being a manager?  All those hits he got are legit.  No PEDs involved in any of those hits. Put him in the HOF.

Had he done today what he did then, the slap on the wrist would be almost unnoticeable.

Neither here nor there. The Hall of Fame is an entirely separate entity than MLB. Each has its own, though sometimes overlapping, policies. One can be completely in the clear with MLB, but the HOF can keep them out.

Good point. By having a committe of only media writers, without any HOF players having a vote, pretty much creates cognitive bias as well as group think (even though that is one big group). In other words many have a perceived false agenda and spread it around. IMO the NFL HOF does it the right way...smaller committee and members of the HOF. This separation of league and HOF, as you correctly described, is what will never allow Rose into the HOF.

Funny, that was one of the first things I thought about when this was announced. Tough to say since he bet on his own team and it is still a baseball policy that no player or coach can bet (at least that is how I understand the rule).

Yes, but.

He bet on his own team to WIN.

Big difference.

Regardless of legalization, Charlie Hustle belongs in the Hall

If it was up to me I would vote him in. My understanding is that he is kind of a jerk that looks for every angle to make a buck, but nonetheless, he is a hall of famer.

This may be universally agreed upon.

Plenty of jerks in the Hall of Fame.

Yeah, I also have the unpopular opinion that the league, the coaches and the owners were all complacent in the PED era happening so I don't think its fair to just blame the players are ban keep them out either. It's a slippery slope when you start looking at who cheated baseball and how.

That's unpopular? It seems fairly obvious it must have been so. They certainly turned a wilful blind eye to try to achieve plausible deniability.

Slid headfirst so his name would be on camera. Ya. Pete "Me" Rose.

Yeah, i mean in my personal experience every time I have brought up the fact the players get unfairly punished compared to rest of baseball, I get called out for supporting cheaters. I also look to the fact that they knew these drugs were on the market and yet made very little to no attempts to update the rule books until Canseco wrote his book.
