I thought it might have something to do with Cincy recruiting this year, which leads the AAC by a wide margin, in quality, despite going 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the AAC.

Not unheard of. USF led the AAC by a wide margin in 2014 despite coming off a 2-10 season.
