And the answer is..... What is Marlon Mack worth?

Was Marlon Mack worth 3 points per game and 1.3 yards per carry?

What about our regressed special team?

On paper losing Mack and Adams should have caused more a drop so maybe Gilbert knows what he is doing.

I could argue that we miss Adams more than Mack

Gotta agree here. Looks very much like we have conscious forethought in clock mgmt. I like it.

No doubt.

This site says we were ranked #109 in TOP last year.

One of the reasons why our defense is better this year is because they are getting more rest by not getting back on the field so quickly.

Yeah Adams catching and running ability I think was the bigger loss.

I think a strong case could be made that this 2017 team is better than the 2016 team.

Much better defense.

Better ball control.

Very slight drop in point production.

Offense is running more plays.

Deliberate clock management, We line up and go on first down, but on second down if the gain is less than 5 yards we take our time, if more than 5 yards we line up and go. Third downs are also more deliberate on longer yardage. This might allow the coaches more time to select the play or it might be to give the defense some rest if it looks like the drive might stall. I actually like the play result management of the clock, I think this makes a big difference on the endurance of the defense and keeps other defenses off guard on if we are going fast or taking time.

I agree the only issue is it seems like this years team just doesnt bring A+ game in all three phases at one time.

Hope they do vs UCF..if so I like our chances.

Maybe, but our defensive A+ game last year wasn’t very good.

If you pitted 2017 vs 2016 the 2026 defense would give up 30+ without a doubt.... and the 2017 defense might hold the 2016 offense down. So, the 2017 team might win that matchup in a similar way to Temple in 2016.

I also think that this year's team would have matched up far better against that 2016 Temple team, and beat them.
