Let's be fair: Smith didn't have much talent to work with the last two years and it was not him calling the plays. I also remember reading lips during the Pitt game when CJL was yelling at Smith and he pointed toward the box as if to say "hey it wasn't me who called that play!"

I want to know why Franks was not  named our offensive coordinator. Could he have been offered the position and turned it down? Or does Leavitt really believe Smith is the better man for the job?

we have turned into a joke of a program

so much promise and hope

and we put all those great recruits in the hands of an inexperienced coach

what a disaster

the good news is that leavitt will be forced to leave after another terrible season

what a disappointment

usf continues to  thing and settle small

I will give him one year before passing judgement, however, what a wasted opportunity, CJL could have hired someone with past OC and possible HC experience to get the offense going in the direction we would all like it to go-the endzone many times over.

Guest BasketBull.

Trying to save $ on a coach? Why not do this?

999926200050000_sb.jpg $189.97

1) Win more games.

2) Make the fans happy.

3) Save the money and throw a big party!

I am truly, truly disappointed with this hire.  I certainly hope the reasoning was not about money, because if it was then what the hell did we accept an invitation to the Big East for?  If you want to roll with the big boys you have to put up or shut up, and that includes putting up money to bring in good coaching.  Money should NOT have been a major factor in this.

However I do believe a factor could have been the timing of Hobbie's resignation.  CJL may have felt that the candidates that were applying for the position were not what he was looking for, and if that was the case then he should have named someone the interum OC for the coming season.  Then during the off season we could have our pick of the litter.  But seeing as this is not the case I think CJL (short of having a cinderella year) could have signed his own pink slip.

Any word on who will take over the QB coaching position?  Barnhardt?

You guys are funny.  You have written this guy off before he even has the job yet when it comes to Mac you are all "give him time."  I wonder if your thoughts would be different if we had gone 6-5 last year and gone to a bowl game ?  Because last year if our defense played worth a hoot we most likely would have won two more games - the first coming to mind is the Army game.  We had a QB that could run, hand off and read the defense very well.  Unfortunatley he would throw at the feet or 5 feet over the WRs heads.  But if he did hit a WR half the time they would drop the ball.  Blame who you want but the coaches put this team in a position to win and it failed to execute, especially the "D".  I am suprised Bien isn't more negative on this hire because I know in the past Smith was the target of his ire, with me on the other side saying maybe he is good but the talent just isn't there.

Mac has a proven record of success, Smith has only shown his inability to develop players. Not sure the connection here...

bien will not show his ire, he is one of those lucky people that can blindly trust and feels if USF does it then it is done right.
