I'm not sure I read any bullspenners saying that they were gonna be no shows.  We will all be there because we love our Bulls.   We just don't prefer noon kickoff times.  The heat doesn't bother me...I just hate getting up before dawn on a Saturday.  So let us complain a little.  The people on this forum are not the problem--we are always at the games.   But sadly, we will see a drop in attendance because our overall casual fan base is quite lame.

This!

this thread is a big reason why I hate tour fan base...always complaining about why they can't attend the football games. The fans are the 12th man and make a difference on the product on the field. If Taggart came out and said that they couldn't play well or had to forfeit because it was too hot out, we would be hopping mad! Taggart doesn't allow the players to make any excuses and we shouldn't allow fans to make excuses for not showing up. Put on the big kid panties and show up and be loud!

I will again point to the number of fans at the Notre Dame and Auburn games (and pretty much any big time program that loses to anyone at home) and wonder how much effect on the game the fans have.  Way overrated IMO.  We could fill up RayJay to the brim with Bulls fans and still get rolled by pretty much anyone in the top 10 this year.

Edit: Every team uses signals from the bench and silent counts at the LOS.  Teams have adapted.

The 12th Man has been making a difference in Seattle for decades. The team even retired the number 12 in honor of its fans in 1984. However, the crowd noise has gained even more notoriety in recent years for its drastic effect on opponents. On Nov. 27, 2005, the New York Giants committed 11 false start penalties and missed three field goals in a loss in Seattle. The next day, head coach Mike Holmgren dedicated the game ball to the 12th Man.

I know that was a while ago, but crowd noise still matters. It only takes one missed call to blow up a play.

Like you acknowledged, that was a while ago.  Teams, even at home, seem to have the QB either clap his hands or put his hand down or lift his foot.

Each player on an NFL team may have a different response to crowd noise, be it home or away, friendly or unfriendly.

"It's a function of that athlete's personality," Dr. Wann told me, "and how they respond to pressure situations. Some athletes just seem to have the ability to rise to the occasion in these anxious moments. What the research suggests is," he continued, "if it's a very difficult task, something the athlete is going to fail at more often than succeed, the distraction of the crowd is going to inhibit their performance. If it's something they're good at, if they're likely to get it right, then the crowd should support their performance and make them better."

Crowd noise can impact NFL games in a real, physical way. Moreover, the energy of the crowd can disrupt the visiting team and psychologically pump up—or deflate—the home team.

I don't think most folks on this board are complaining about the time and not coming. They are complaining and then showing up, as I will do. A fat man hates a noon game in Florida. An weekend alcoholic hates a noon game (can't drink heavily the night before). Even if a fat weekend alcoholic with no name makes it through the game, he is worthless when he gets home. Will a FWA be there? Yes. Does a FWA like noon game, no, no he does not. This is supposed to be entertainment not misery.

I don't think that losing to FSU will chase that many fans away....it wasn't like losing to McNeese St.  That loss started a 2 1/2 year period of diminished hope for a good season. This year (and last) we are very capable of winning a championship and because of that the fans will continue to support.  Probably not at the level that whey/we did for the FSU game, but support the team they will do nonetheless.  If we could flush all the stowaways from the club then our crowd would instantly be a lot bigger.

OH MY! You are a new one aren't you? Lets see, FSU game was 55k? something like that? I'm guessing ECU, because of homecoming, 20k? maybe 25K? Honestly I hope you are right and I am wrong, and there could be the Buccaneer effect to put more butts in seats, but, you know, past behavior is best predictor of future behavior and all that.
