  1. This is the key to success in this day and age of college football. No longer can (most) teams get by with a good QB and a serviceable backup. You have to have 2 to 3 high ceiling, high level prospects to hope to compete. Too much can happen with injuries, suspensions, and players just not developing to their full potential. I have to say, I really like the trajectory that our team and recruiting is currently showing. We very well may compete for an AAC Championship next year and for the foreseeable future.
  2. USF should be offering a free ticket and companion ticket to all active duty and veterans on a first come, first served basis the day of the game. Make it a true military appreciation game and fill the lower bowl!
  3. I flew up for that Rutgers game. That ridiculous, Schiano induced "illegal forward propulsion" call haunts me to this day. I still think that if we win that game we could have won out on the season.....oh what could have been.
  4. I know that UCONN is loaded and beating them is a Herculean task, but we improved every time we played them last season. The first game was a 42 point blowout. The second was a 23 point defeat where they ridiculously outplayed us for a 10 minute stretch and the game was lost. By the third meeting, we only lost by 14, outscoring them by 9 in the second half. Our girls are very familiar with their team. We will have to bring our A game and hope they have their C game, but it COULD happen, however unlikely that might be. We should get another 3 swings at them this season.
  5. Basketball, especially women's basketball, is the one team sport where just one or two outstanding players can propel the entire team into national contention. Let's hope she sees what amazing things CJF has done with the program. A win over UCONN at some point this season would go a long way to highlighting us as a true player that is here to stay.
  6. They are actually playing #4 seed Cincy who upset #1 seed UCONN 3-2 in Double OT. Cincy was down 2-0 with 10 minutes left, tied it to force OT, then scored the game winner on a header. USF completely dominated the game against UCF. They had around 27 shots (which is a ridiculous amount in soccer) and could have easily won 3-0 in regulation. No matter what happens, the soccer ladies will be playing in the NCAA tournament. They aren't getting quite the respect they should in the coaches poll (currently #25) but entered the tournament with an RPI #15. Would have much rather beaten UCONN again (RPI #7), but will definitely take a conference championship! A top 16 seed (the NCAA seeds each regional 1-4) is definitely in reach with a win. GO BULLS!
  7. Thanks again for the condensed version. I counted a total of 7 dropped passes. Of those 7, 5 were extremely egregious. The one to Barr in the flat was a little bit high and wobbly, so I won't pin that totally on him, and the one by Adams, while a perfectly thrown ball, was a difficult ball to catch and control. If the WRs make the 5 easy catches that were drops, Flowers is 14 of 20 for about 200 yards....pretty darn impressive.
  8. Statistically speaking, we have a much better chance of beating Cincinnati than we do ECU based upon the FPI (46.4% v. 36.0%)
  9. The arms race will continue. The sports arms for Fox, NBC, and CBS must stay viable and competitive. Greater competition places a premium on the content. With the AAC being in multiple Top 50 media markets, the interest will be there. We just need to keep making sure that there are 3 or 4 top 25 teams each year. The best way to do that is to back load the schedule with the match-ups between the teams perceived to be the top teams in the conference. If you look at the Big 12 this year, they did exactly that. None of the top 4 teams in their conference play each other until November 14. This is significant because it created the opportunity for them to have 3 or 4 undefeated teams heading into those games leading to a glut of top 10 matches at seasons end. This was absolutely by design by their savvy commissioner. Our conference brass just need to identify the top 4 or 5 projected AAC teams for the following season and make sure that none of them play each other until that last 4 weeks of the season, enabling multiple teams to go undefeated.
  10. You are absolutely right. Other than Michigan State and Michigan, who is Ohio State going to have to beat that would be favored on a neutral field over Memphis? Other than Oklahoma and TCU, who in the Big 12 is a threat if you are Baylor? Look at Baylor's resume. Who have they beaten at this point in the season? Their SOS is something between 100 and 110 while Memphis's is around 70, which is also the same at Ohio State at this point. The real travesty will be if a one loss AAC champion gets left out of the New Year's Day Bowls because Toledo was able to go undefeated with their 118th ranked schedule, beating no one anywhere near the Top 30. Their best win is against Arkansas, and that win will continue to lose its luster as Arky continues to lose games.
  11. Unless the FAMU game will not count toward bowl eligibility (which I haven't read anywhere that it won't) we should be bowling with 6 wins. There are 6 direct bowl tie-ins that have to take an AAC team before taking an at-large. The most bowl eligible teams the conference will have is 7. The only scenario in which we get left out is if all 7 teams become bowl eligible and the AAC Champion doesn't get the at-large College Football Playoff spot. In that scenario, there is still a possibility that the team could be invited as an at-large to fill-in at another bowl if all 80 slots are not filled.
  12. You, me, and everybody else on here feels the exact same way. As I have said in another thread, if we can find a way to beat Navy, I like how we match-up against every other team remaining on our schedule from a scheme and athletic standpoint. At the very least, I would expect us to be in each game with a chance to win in the 4th quarter.
  13. I think we would be toast if he hadn't coached against them in he past. The experience of preparing for the triple option will pay off in this game. IF, and it is a moderately big if, USF can pull this one out, I would have to think that we would have a legitimate shot at running the table. From a match-up perspective, this is by far and away our most difficult remaining game on the schedule. I have watch enough of Cincy/ECU/Temple this season to safely say that we match-up well against all three of those teams and should have a good to very good chance of winning.
  14. I think it would depend how we looked on the field. If we are getting outplayed and out-coached in every facet of the game, then that is problematic and his position should be reevaluated. If we continue to show signs of improvement and just come up short against better teams, then I think he will have done enough to earn another season. The difference between now and last season is night and day. I think the team will only improve next year. If we were a senior-laden team with most of our playmakers graduating, it would be a different story. Being so young at virtually every skill position, I think we have to give him one more year to see what he can do with upperclassmen. I think this debate will be moot, as I see us winning at least one of the ECU/Cincy/Temple games, and also throttling UCiF to finish bowl eligible.
  15. His WKU team played Navy back in 2011. It was a 40-14 loss at home. Navy rushed the ball 57 times for 410 yards. They only passed 7 times, but two of those went for TDs. Their team couldn't keep up physically with Navy. Hopefully CWT learned from that experience. Interestingly, that year's WKU team started out 0-4 before figuring things out and ending the season winning 7 out of 8. In those first 4 losses, they scored a TOTAL of 55 points (13.75 ppg) in their last 8 games they scored 27.5 ppg, and that number was skewed by a 9 point performance against #1 LSU. The similarities to this season's team are there. Let's hope the on-field results continue.
  16. Well, you can most likely rest your fears, as he has shown enough progress to get another year. Barring an absolutely disastrous stretch run, I can't foresee him not getting one more year.
  17. The most important thing is the extra 2 weeks worth of practice, it is invaluable in developing the younger talent that potentially doesn't get coached up as much during the season. Also, what a great reward for the players. Having that experience of being wined and dined at a bowl game is priceless for the players and will only leave them wanting to get back there the following year.
  18. They are cut blocks. A chop block occurs when you have a player engaged up high with another player and a third comes into one of them and blocks them low. Navy does cut block quite frequently, as it is hard to chase three potential ball carriers when you are on the ground.
  19. They would also have a W over Navy, who could end up with just 3 losses.
  20. This week's game looms large. Beat Navy and we can realistically start the discussion about winning a division championship and playing for the conference title.
  21. Can you imagine trying to manage the debt from a stadium right now with how abysmal our attendance has been the last 3 years. 15,000 in attendance against SMU....that is nothing short of depressing. Not only that, but you are also asking those from St. Pete and South Tampa to essentially drive another 20 minutes to go to the games. If there was an OCS the only attendance number that would improve would be the students, and the University already gets their money no matter what. Until we are consistently averaging 35,000+ in actual attendance again, any serious discussion on this topic needs to be shelved.
  22. I agree that is exactly what I would want, but, in terms of helping Memphis out the most, a Temple win over ND, with their only two losses coming against Memphis (regular season and championship game) would help them the most in the eyes of the CFPC.
  23. If Memphis beats Houston and Temple (especially if they beat ND), and wins the conference championship, there is no way they should be left out of the college football playoff, especially if Ole Miss wins out. They would have as impressive a resume as the winner of the Big Ten and Big 12.
