Having grown up in actual South Florida, I can tell you with 100% certainty, it comes up.

When I think of South Florida I think of the BULLS!     Just keep winning then the football world will think the same .

It's just a name, not a statement of latitude. Anyway, most people in the country think all of Florida is pretty much the same... beaches, palm trees, sunshine, college football, weird people, and alligators. Last time I checked, Tampa has all of those things, so... 🌴☀️🐊🐂🤘🏈

When people ask where I went to school I always say South Florida. Its the gnats that hate C. Florida and the like

When you say 'South Florida' just about everyone thinks Palm, Broward, and Dade Counties. People and culture are so different from Tampa Bay. 

 

And who cares? 

When you say "UCF", people have no idea what it is or where it is. Going to some stupid abbreviation to hide that you're a directional U is stupid, unless, of course, you're IUPUI.
