The media guides used to make a big point of "USF" being the official moniker, but I think most fans could care less. I like both names. The only time I get ticked off is when a sportscaster slips and calls us UCF or when an idiot reveals their ignorance and calls us Southern Florida or refers to USF as a small commuter school.

I like USF...no one except California people may think San Fran first but that’s it. South Florida gives the directional school haters fuel. Also, we live in an acronym world today.

The whole USF vs South Florida debate has apparently been decided by Disney. Check out the schedule and standings at this site. It’s also what’s on the score crawl on tv.  Unfortunately Disney properties are where 90% of college fans see the scores, watch the games and get their sports news. So we are South Florida and they are UCF.

I don't care whether it is USF or South Florida. I use both at different times when referring to our team.

However, being from the St Petersburg area and working for years around Tampa Bay I now find myself living in Pensacola for business reasons. I will get introduced to others up there as being from South Florida and I immediately fix that by saying I am from the central West coast area. I don't want people thinking I am from South Florida when it comes to the geographic distinction. Don't want them thinking I am from the Miami area.

We just need to have our football team do well and we will get known and nobody will care whether we use USF or South Florida.
