Over the past few weeks, our Football recruiting has been disappointing to say the least. Following a winning season and Bowl game, I expected much more. The number of kids flipping to other schools is ridiculous. Hopefully, we can close on Dukes, Sails and maybe Weaver.

We may finish strong but currently only have 14 commits (including Salomon, who may also flip).

I think the main problem is our current Assistant Coaches (other than Woodie and possibly Reaves) are not good recruiters. In 2014, Telly Lockette was instrumental in recruiting Miami and in getting Flowers, Nichols, Johnson, etc. We recently lost Dugans, our other excellent recruiter, and shortly thereafter Williams flipped. On the current staff, I do not think Gilbertson, Pimpleton, and Hampton have done anything in recruiting. Hopefully, Weist and Jancek can help improve in this area.

I do not think the main issue is kids flipping to P5 schools, it is more so that our current Assistant Coaches (except Woodie and Reaves) can't close the deal and sell the program! Dugans and Lockette had no problem doing this, why can't others?

With the increase in the Assistant salary pool, I am hoping the recruiting picks up in future years!

I don't want USF to keep relying on transfers from other programs who were unhappy in their situation. We need Assistant Coaches (in addition to Taggart) that can build relationships and sell the USF Program.

Thoughts?

Same thing I posted in the craig Smith thread we only have about 18 available scholarship spots this year so it was going to always be a small class. These guys that are flipping now were not long time commits or recruits (Stover was a long time recruit but also seemed to be in the mindset he was settling for USF) so they were always looking for the better offer, they all committed to USF when it was their best offer.

If we lose Solomon to Temple that will suck, but this was always going to be a slow recruiting year. Next year will be better as it's always the year after a big year that ithe shows in recruiting.

Sails isn't coming here OP, it's between Cincy and UNC. We're hoping to flip the UF CB/Safety instead.

Why is the class so small?  We had a low grad class, I know, and some transfers, but we also had 3-4 players leave or get dumped (e.g. Knox, Robbins).

Have any of the assistants gotten raises since Willy did? Just curious and hope that isnt related to why Tom Allen left

One of the issues might be that the coaches can't guarantee playing time the first or second year

I don't see us grabbing these guys, especially Myers, as the biggest of the big boys are wooing him. Same with Mathis, it seems.  Sails looks like he's not considering us, possibly because we have a few studs lined up already, and not all can play.  Maybe he want to leave town and/or sees a better op to play elsewhere.

Nope. KJ was the only one considering us on this list...the bay area recruits weren't as interested in us as years past.
