One hole did them in.

This, the endless money pit that it is, and the fact that I suck at it, are the main reasons I can't stand to play the game. I can definitely admire those who are good at it though...

The GolfWeek ranking is probably the one most people cite. USF is now ranked #8 by them.

Congrats to the team on their fine play all year and gaining a top ten ranking which is well deserved.

 

We had planned on attending the AAC championship at Black Diamond GC, but I'm not sure if I'll be physically able, because of current  difficulty in walking. Hopefully, I'll be well enough after receiving a cortisone shot in my hip in the near future.

The next USF MG tourney is  at the Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by FSU on March 13-15, 2015, at  Southwood Golf Course. It's another great opportunity for USF to make some noise in college golf.

No. 8/9 Bulls Continue Climb in National Rankings

TAMPA, MARCH 5, 2015 – The USF men’s golf team has made program history by jumping into the top 10 in both major college rankings following a pair of early season titles and an impressive performance in Mexico.

Golfweek has ranked head coach Steven Bradley’s squad No. 8 in the nation while the Bulls climbed three spots to No. 9 in the Golfstat top 25.

USF started the season with a title win at The Invitational at The Ocean Course in September and added another trophy to the case by topping a loaded field at The Gator Invitational on Feb. 15 in Gainesville. The Bulls have placed in the top five in five of six events this season.

The constant climb in the rankings continued this week after the Bulls placed third at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Tuesday in Los Cabos, Mexico. USF bettered two teams ranked in the top 10 heading into the tournament and finished only behind No. 2 Florida State and No. 11 Vanderbilt in the very strong field. The Bulls took the lead into the final round and finished 4-under as a team while sophomore Rigel Fernandes tied for fourth and junior Chase Koepka tied for 10th place individually.

The Bulls continue their run toward a third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance March 13-15 at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee. USF will play in three events before the American Athletic Conference Championship takes place April 26-28 in Lecanto, Fla. USF is serving as host institution for the 2015 NCAA Golf Championships being held at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton. The men’s NCAA Championship runs May 29-June 3.

Koepka (69) bested by brother Chase (66) Thursday

DORAL, Fla. – There was big news in the Koepka house on Thursday.

Brooks' 69 on Day 1 at Doral? Nope.

Try little brother Chase’s round of 66 at the pre-qualifier for the Valspar Championship.

Chase Koepka still has to play his way through Monday’s qualifier, and Brooks' round at Doral was one of just seven in the 60s on a windswept day, but the older brother was still excited for his little brother.

“He played good last week, too, at the pre-qualifier [for the Honda Classic]. I think he made a hole-in-one,†Brooks Koepka said. “That was pretty sweet. We went out and celebrated that. Unfortunately, he didn't get through, but hopefully he gets through on this one because he’s playing well.â€

Brooks Koepka doesn’t plan to play the Valspar Championship, but added he “might go and watch if [Chase] gets in.â€

1 stroke behind FSU at the end of round 1. Not bad but it looks like FSU had a strong back 9 to take the lead.

FSU and USF have separated themselves quite a bit from the rest of the field. Third place Stanford is six shots behind us.

In the three golf rankings FSU is 1/2/2. USF is 12/14/15.  We beat them heads up a couple of weeks ago. It would be great to do it again and make another major move in the rankings. Even if we end up second or third, in this strong field, we would likely move into the top ten in at least one of the rankings.

 

Plus, USF Rigel Fernandes is the individual leader at -7. (3 shots ahead of 2 FSU players).

This team could be in contention for a national championship this year.  The team is very good 1-5 and seems to have some swagger.
