Why is FGCU better than us at everything suddenly? Do they field a football team too?

Why is FGCU better than us at everything suddenly? Do they field a football team too?

I was thinking the same thing. As good as our Women's Basketball team is their team is still ranked higher than ours.

Baseball, BB, soccer, WBB all seem to be doing better than us.

No football team at FGCU. Something they want to research but I doubt gets off the ground. Even without the Florida schools there are huge pockets of Buckeye, Wolverine, Badger, etc. fanbases here and I doubt they can peel off enough to make a go of D1, especially in the current landscape.

 

Also, they have a relatively small athletic department and have continuously hired good coaches and administrators.  Current AD was hired a few years ago from Bradley and renewed for the princely sum of $225K a year a year or two ago.

A feasibility study for FGCU football went splat  a year or so ago, even in D3 status.

 

Smartly, they prefer to focus on sports where they can recruit, compete and win. For the sports they have, they are routinely good.

They have  a very stable coaching staff (IIRC)  which I think is key.
