A 76-year-old grandfather of eight, Tomey most recently had been special teams coach at Hawaii. When he begins on Feb. 20, he'll have administrative oversight of USF's football program, according to a school news release. “Dick has a tireless passion for intercollegiate athletics and I am confident that his expertise will not only assist our football program, but our entire department," said Harlan, who grew up with Tomey's son in a southern California neighborhood and later worked for Tomey at UA. "**** will partner with me, Coach (Willie) Taggart, our football staff and all of our administrators to help us move forward." http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/former-arizona-coach-****-tomey-hired-at-usf/2217140 Edited February 11, 2015 by SANJAY

While Harlan is a basketball specialist with some football experience of his own, I get the impression he wants someone who can evaluate a coaching job on his own merits. Not to mention a guy like Tomey will be valuable with his contacts and ability to evaluate should USF need to make a new hire next year. That said, I get the impression this is probably a 1-2 year gig at most for that very reason. Tomey isn't returning to coaching, he's 76.

How much is Taggart costing us now? P.S. It's almost akin to providing a scholarship for a recruit's personal tutor because said recruit isn't capable of the college class work without him.
