Houston QB John O'Korn has been granted permission to contact other schools per source. Has 3 years to play 2.

He would lose 2 years of eligibility if he transferred to USF (losing one per NCAA rules and an additional per AAC Rules).  I don't think we're an option.

I get that AAC rule, but it seems punitive towards the student athlete.

It's waivable upon request.

If the athlete thinks it's too punitive, they can ask for a review

A player doesn't lose eligiblity because of the NCAA transfer.  Remember, football players have five years to play four seasons.  O'Korn would have to sit if he transfers to any FBS program - but sitting is not losing eligibility.  If he transferred to FAU or TCU (for example) he would sit one year (basically redshirt) and still have two years to play.

You are right that he would lose a year in the American.  Transferring to UCF or USF would force him to sit out one year, and then have only one season of eligibility left.

Not sure it's that waivable... it is actually the same rule for every sport - football, golf, softball, track & field, etc.

And almost every conference has this kind of rule.

If I remember correctly, the old BE rule was you couldn't transfer to another team within the conference, so it's actually not as restrictive as it use to be

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
