A few observations...

IUP is a very good D2 team and was a great opponent for an exhibition to get our guys some real college experience.

Surprised at the student showing 2/3 up the second level, way to go.

COA works the bench and the refs very well.

Cousins is going to turn out to be a great find.

AC spends a lot of time down on the floor. I was cringing every time he went down. Fortunately he always got up and appears he is back in form.

We finally seem to have guys that can make free throws.

Very optimistic for the season.

I was not that impressed by cousins at all. He is very stiff and only has one post move. He scored most of his points because he was so much bigger than IUP's post players.

Looking at that box score, it looks like we wouldve been beaten had that daddy ugbede guy not fouled out early.

Of course perry and guerrero were out so cant read too much into that

Started 4 guards and a center. Is this the likely lineup all year?

Also, WTF is a deadball rebound? When the ball hits the top of the backboard or gets stuck in the iron?

Dead ball rebounds are credited to a team when:

  1. Possession is retained after a missed free-throw attempt which is followed by another attempt.
  2. Possession is retained after a missed technical foul shot.
  3. Time expires prior to a player or team gaining possession of a missed shot.
  4. A foul occurs on a missed shot and the ball becomes dead before a player or team can gain possession.

I thought Cousins showed good presence.

He also flashed a mean streak a couple of times, including the big dunk he had.

He also had 3 blocks and 13 pts.

Like I mentioned in my earlier post, the team in general did start off sloppy and stiff, but I agree with 79 Bull. I think he may turn out to be a great player.

I think by far the best center we've had in a long while.

He is nowhere near as good as Egbunu. Plus I'm pretty sure at least two of his blocks were actually Bo's. I think Perry and Guerrero both get more PT at the 5 than Cousins.

To my untrained eye, this team is already better coached than anything I've seen here at USF in my 9 or 10 years of following basketball. The staff seems organized; they are doing things with a purpose. Throw in some talent and size over the next year or two and we should be treated to some pretty good stuff.

Those 20 win teams must have won despite coaching.
