The psych game is as much a part of football as the physical game. You never know when you might get an advantage with the psych warfare

Trash talking is what sport is all about.

"I am going to do this, and you will not be able to stop me."

My take on trash talking is that it is ABSOLUTELY appropriate BEFORE the game, or before the play, but totally inappropriate afterwards.

Smack beforehand creates positive competitive tension, afterwards creates negative resentment.

IF you can back it up, go for it.

I saw in the post game where BYRD said they didn't come out of the locker room as intense as the first half.

NOBODY should have been talking in the second half.

Eh, on the field, it's not a big deal, and... may actually show that our team is playing with some swagger. I liked the "play to the echo of the whistle" attitude we had in the first half. I dont even mind the very questionable late hit out of bounds call that went against us. It was very light contact, but, showed that we weren't pulling up. I think 75% of the time, that is a no-call.

You can't talk and then come out flat in the second half though.

Pre-game/mid-week stuff is inappropriate and only gives the team fuel to build on. Gordon is a great player. If he needed our defense to tell him that he was being shut down and motivate him to elevate his game, I would have to question his legitimacy. But, since he apparently thinks he is going to win the heisman and has pictures of the other stud running back in college football in his bedroom for motivation, I think he is probably just fine with self awareness and motivation. Nothing to see here.
