My father(RIP) won a Bronze star for his action in the grim forest. Over 19,000 Americans perished in the engagement. It was by far the bloodiest engagement in WW2. Let's celebrate all those brave souls who paid the ultimate sacrifice and the ones to came home to start the baby boom.

Estimates are all over the place, but I used a number I heard on Network special. Didn't mean to downplay, just trusted the network, silly me. Estimates actually range from that to as many as 9000. My father also fought in the "Battle of the Buldge" I wrote down the stories he told me so they could be told to future generations of my family. Most likely still in flight school stateside. He told me about trying to fly through the Brenner Pass with people on the ground shooting DOWN at him. Insane. He never lost a plane or a crewmember, so he had a luck angel on his shoulder I guess. He's gone now, but lived well into his 70's before hard living caught up to him.
