This has to be one of the worse trades in Bucs history.

You're comparing an injured player on a bad team to a healthy player on a good team. Not really fair IMO. Hind sight is usually 20:20.

Demps is a guy that can run fast but would rather run track than play football.  Blount is a football player, and has prove he can be a #1 back if needed.  Belicheck saw a guy that was just a good football player, and knew that he would be useful at some point.  Schiano wanted players that fit his "system" rather than a good player.  Belicheck makes the most of whatever his talent can do, Schiano tries to make his talent fit the system.

That is the difference between a top NFL coach and a mediocre (at best) NFL coach.

Martin was healthy when they made that move.

Exactly ... Anybody calling this one of the worst trades in Bucs history doesn't know Bucs history.

Belichek is a master at taking cast offs and doing this kind of thing.

I disagree with the 2nd part of this sentence.  He is still in the process of proving he can be a #1 back.  Yeah, he had a great game this past weekend, but the guy cannot catch a pass out of the backfield to save his life.  He didn't have one catch the other day (not that he needed to) but that was a big reason why Tampa shipped him out and Doug Martin was drafted in the first round.

At some point, a good defense will stop Blount's running game and when they do, that shuts him down completely.  He's not even a threat out of the backfield as a receiver.  Maybe it will be Denver, maybe it will be Seattle/San Fran.  Who knows, but he is far from a complete back and not a proven feature back by any means.  Belichick just rode the hot hand against Indy.

To be a feature back and/or an elite back in the NFL, you need to be able to be a checkdown for your QB - Blount doesn't fit that bill.

He can carry the running load, which is far more than Demps can do.  Demps is a guy you get the ball to 3-5/game and hope he breaks a long one.  Blount can and has carried the ball 25+/game.

Or have you already forgotten his Bucs career?  Sure you need a complimentary back for most passing plays, but few NFL RBs can carry the ball that much and be successful, effective in the passing game or not.

Only an idiot would trade Blount to get Demps.

Schiano was that idiot. I think Blount would have been a great compliment to Martin to a coach that understood football. He had some great moments as a Buc, and probably could have had more, but you really think he'd be starting over Doug Martin in any different situation?

Nothing you've said supports your assertion that he's proven to be a #1 feature back.
