Don't be so melodramatic. Many people thought Leavitt had plateaued and could not get this team to the next level. Not sure how many more 3-4 BE seasons people (and DW) were going to tolerate. There is no guarantee he would still be here even without choke slap gate.

Mediocrity with some moderate success is vastly better than what we've experienced since he's left. We were going to bowl games every year under him and I'm sure we would have continued to do so

you forget how much people would ***** about which bowl games we were going to other than the Sun Bowl-- which was just a delayed amount of ******** as people pissed their pants over the results

We missed on multiple coaches that could potentially have given us better results. Hiring Willie Taggart while Bobby Petrino is looking for a job on the cheap is senseless on the part of management at USF. Don't spin Petrino slept with an intern. He paid the price for his f-up at Arkansas and USF was too obtuse to give the guy a second chance. Either way, WKU just beat down Kentucky and we just got our asses handed to us by McCheeseburger State. I'm not saying Coach Taggart won't be a good hire, but Coach Petrino has proven he can win. Heck - the guy really laughing at all of this has to be Calvin McGee. He should have been hired over Skip many years ago.

I say this all the time.  We will never be what we were under JL.  He cared.  He powered us to success.  No one else will ever bring that back.  Sorry that just my honest opinion

he won nothing

We had I'm not sure how many seasons with CJL and we've had 3.083 with two other coaches. Which set you like better?

Say what you want about Leavitt's coaching ability and abuse of power, but there's no questioning that he was a great recruiter. Just look at all the NFL-level talent he brought to USF.

There's definitely a change in the "fire" post-Leavitt.  I totally miss those days, but I am thinking we can recover when these guys start believing in themselves and understanding their roles in the new system.

Don't miss him, it was time for him to go.

Brilliant insight. Real deep. Thanks for the contribution.

I agree with The Sheriff, Willie was a reach with Petrino available. Willie is going to need years to replenish the empty shelves, while Petrino probably gets recruits in quicker. Spare me the "stepping stone" excuse. Willie is out in a few years too, if he can get this team to a bowl game. With the program in shambles, he'll look like a genius if we make the Beef O Brady's Bowl in 2016.

I guess if you can look past what a creep Petrino is-- then sure-- what a great hire he would be.

I think it's a hurdle I can get over. He certainly paid a price for his indiscretions. I think you hold your nose and give him a second chance. This type of risk worked out well for Kansas St and Huggy Bear.

Sorry, had to mention my man Huggy.
