I'll never forget the when the Columbian fans killed a player for his own-goal against the U.S. in the '94 Cup. That's 3rd world type stuff. There hasn't been a decaptiation of a referee here in the states yet, but if you ever go to a Raiders game you'll see lots of "3rd world" type activity. You'll get a certain subsection of fans everywhere, whether in european culture or the rest of the world, that are bat-**** crazy. It isn't just a 3rd world thing. I'll never forget the when the Columbian fans killed a player for his own-goal against the U.S. in the '94 Cup. The Andres Escobar story is pretty sad. It wasn't fans that killed him. If you ever watch the ESPN documentary "The Two Escobars," it does a great job of describing how intertwined the Colombian narco-traffickers of the 80's and 90's were with professional soccer clubs there. Escobar got mixed up with some mafioso's lackeys in a bar, and a scuffle ensued. Unfortunately, a lackey with a gun is dangerous and prone to resolve grudges in a stupid way. Thankfully, Colombia has come a long way since the 90's, and it continues to be one of the fastest growing economies in South America, along with Peru, Chile, and Brasil. It's a beautiful country with beautiful people that continues to struggle with the vestiges of its past.

Woo hoo, one less person to have to compete for tickets for when I watch the red, white, and blue!
